Kitchen utensils: what are the essentials?

What are the most essential kitchen utensils?

A mortar and pestle, of course! These tools have been used for centuries to prepare spices in Latin American cuisine.

But what about other popular dishes like curry or halibut stew? The answer may surprise you: It's not just these cuisines that rely heavily on their use – many international recipes specifically call out "a spice rub" as well as specific grinders like fresh cilantro if desired (and who doesn't love adding some fresh minced garlic). Nowadays there are also electric models that do a great job at both grinding AND chopping herbs - if safety is your thing then this could be perfect as it has everything you need.

How to choose kitchen utensils:

Let's start with the pots. There are different ones and with various materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, enamelled cast iron, copper, stone, terracotta, porcelain and enamelled glass. Furthermore, especially pans, generally have a particular non-stick coating which is essential in the kitchen.

You have to choose in relation to the use we will make of it behind the stove and then based on the material. The pots are equipped with a lid and two handles, possibly of various sizes. The capacity varies with the number of guests, obviously.

The pans allow the preparation of fried foods, vegetables, meat etc. They too are needed in various measures. Let's not forget casseroles and pans for stews, roasts and sauces. The grill pan and pressure cooker are also useful for cooking legumes, braised meats and minestrone.

One of the most important things to consider when choosing cookware is the type and frequency of use. Raw material, style, weight or thinness - whatever your preference there is a perfect set for every occasion!

I always recommend going with stainless steel because not only does it move better than other metals, but nothing sticks well enough on its surface that could scratch delicate glass dishes either across the room or even nearby during cooking, which makes cleaning a lot easier too because food doesn't make great cleaners for removing grit (although they come in handy!). And if cost isn't an issue, try investing early because the long-term costs will likely far outweigh anything else quite.

Knife set

We remind you that in addition to the classic cutlery, it will be necessary to equip yourself with a good set of knives, made of steel and/or ceramic, with different sizes, for the various recipes in the kitchen.

Obviously you will need steel scissors and the classic chicken cutter.

Furthermore, ladles of various sizes, in wood and steel, for mixing dough, sauces, etc., as well as the skimmer, cannot be missing.

Knives can be a very useful tool to have in the kitchen. There are many types and styles of knives available, but not all will work for every task or purpose; Before purchasing one, be sure to consider which type would best suit how much time they will spend on the cutting board, as well as their personal preferences. Consider these factors: length (the average person has about 11 inches from base to tip), weight distribution on the shape of the handle(s) what material is made out of.

The most important thing when choosing any sharp tool is safety rules because if handled incorrectly an accident could happen causing injury so always wear gloves while handling them.

As regards pans made of non-stick material, it is advisable to have special tools that do not scratch this type of material. You will also need whisks, including electric ones, for preparing desserts, for whipping and for preparing beaten eggs.

The chopping board and the mezzaluna are essential for chopping, slicing and cleaning vegetables and more. The potato masher, potato peeler and vegetable mill are other allies for those who love velvety soup or the classic gateau.

We might also need a meat tenderizer. For the desserts, you will need rolling pins, molds, a pastry cutter and some cookie cutters.

You will also need pot holders and oven gloves, containers for the fridge of various sizes.
